A fairly easy arrangement of this lovely, well known English air which is also often heard at Christmas time under the title of "What Child Is This". Arranged in Ternary form (A B A), Sop Glock and Alto Met play the melody throughout with some slight variation in the Alto Met part for the repeat of the A section. Alto Glock provides harmony and has glissandi in 2 bars. Marimba could be substituted for Bass Xyl. Written in A Minor, students will need their F# and G# bars.

„Greensleeves“ is based on an Italian style of composition.
Found in several late-16th-century and early 17th-century sources and preserved at the University of Cambridge.
Christmas and New Year texts were associated with the tune from as early as 1686.
The tune is contained in several of Dowland’s lute manuscripts; in William Ballet’s Lute Book; in Sir John Hawkins’ transcripts of virginal music; in The Dancing Master; The Beggar’s Opera; and in many other books.
The earliest known source of the tune -Trinity College, Dublin ms. D. I.21, c. 1580 - known as "William Ballet's lute book“- gives the tune in the melodic minor scale.
"Greensleeves" is also often played in a natural minor scale and in the Dorian Mode.
This arrangement is inspired on the transcripts of virginal music from Sir John Hawkins’.
The piece is appropriate for beginner students or amateurs and without any doubt very pleasant to listen when played by an experienced ensemble. It can be used in concerts and all sorts of spiritual or religious events.

This is a theme and variations arrangement of the original folk song set for string orchestra. There is a setting of the original song followed by two beautiful variations with lilting melodic lines. The piece takes on a whole new characteristic as the variations progress to a climatic point near the end. Your audience will be completely mesmerized as they listen to this new version. If there is a time issue, the variations may be eliminated by ending the piece at measure 24, however, everyone will want to hear this uplifting version in its entirety. A obra dramática para fora, música de alta qualidade, utilizando a instrumentação cânones polifônicos, onde colorida apresentado todas as ferramentas barroco, incluindo os seus mais brilhantes representantes do oboé e cravo. Greensleeves, in the form that we hear today, was originally titled "A Newe Northen Dittye of ye Ladye Greene Sleves." While many versions of Greensleeves exist, the one we are most likely to hear today is this one, first printed by Richard Jones in 1580. There is some debate among scholars regarding the actual composer of the melody.
In 1870, William Chatterton Dix wrote the poem "What Child is This" and set it to the enduring Greensleeves melody, thus making "What Child is This" a favorite
Christmas carol.
This flute choir arrangement is a simple yet beautiful adaptation and reimagining of the classic melody.
The piece was written with a large flute choir in mind, but it can be adapted to several configurations.
