“1984” is the title of the funk-rock song by David Bowie, the famous English rock musician. It was written by Bowie in 1973 and released as part of his 8th album “Diamond Dogs”. The song was inspired by the book of the famous English novelist George Orwell that is titled “Nineteen Eighty-Four”. The entire album was based on the famous novel and was intended to turn into a musical; however, it never happened because Orwell’s wife refused to give her permission. “1984” is characterized by funk & soul sounding, it reminded the critics of an earlier song by Bowie titled “All the Madmen” as well as of Isaac Hayes’ song “Theme from Shaft”. “1984” is a rare case when David did not play the lead guitar himself, instead, the part was performed by Alan Parker.

I've loved Orwell's books for their depth and writing style. The same could be said about the musical version of his major creation, the novel 1984 - I don't think that someone else could make a better musical portrait of the famous novel than Bowie did. The music, just like the novel, is so full of rich imagery, it's exciting, original, and it's easy to practise too, which is also important. I'm no pro musician but I've already got to play four tracks from Diamond Dogs, including the brightest one - 1984. Thank you for the quality sheets of this amazing composition.
