The work was conceived as a musical theatre piece in 11 movements and scored for narrator and reed quintet (oboe, clarinet, sax, bass clarinet, bassoon). A shorter concert suite version (without narrator) in 6 parts may be performed if preferred. The text consists of prose-poems by Russell Edson (1935-2014, American) written over the period 1964-2009. The movements: I. Curtain-raiser II. A Chair III. Mouse Music IV. The Fall V. Ape & Coffee VI. A Performance at Hog Theatre VII. Entr'Acte VIII. The Large Thing IX. The Doorway Trap X.
