Preface from the composer herself...
This piece is a collaboration of several of my earlier string quartets... (which many of them are
still available on where you likely got this.) I started working on this overall in 2018 shortly after
The Tale of the Bird; and most of the original is not existant in this piece as they are from later
string quartet movements.
The andante is a revision of several andante and one adagio movement. Kinda frankensteined
into what you hear... while the Scherzo is two seperate pieces fused into one... though the tail end
of it; was slightly modified to give off the sense of dissonant dread you hear when playing that
specific part... It is simply the foreboding feelings one gets before the dark times they are about
to face...
In this Dark Time (the third Movement) was written shortly after Covid was in full swing and
had started as a piece for chamber orchestra, then just strings then what you see here. It is
followed by a Rondo.
This is a really dark piece and meant to disturb you when you are listening... think if Gloria
Coates, Penderecki, Webern and Felix Mendelssohn got together and attempted to come up with
an equally traditional and avant-garde piece of music; that sounds like something Beethoven
would have writen if he would have written a 17th string quartet... but somehow they all went
their seperate ways for each movement and instrument... and this was the result.
At least that is how i envision it...
