“Wish You Were Here” is a progressive rock song by the famous rock band from England known as Pink Floyd. The song was written by the duo of two of the band members – David Gilmour and Roger Waters. It was released in 1975 as part of the band’s album of the same name. It was also re-recorded as a live version single for their 1995 album titled “Pulse”. Lyrically, the song highlights the distrust of its author (Waters) towards the music industry as such (influenced by the breakdown of the band’s former member Syd Barratt). The sounds of the radio being tuned at the very beginning of the song were recorded in the car of David Gilmour. “Wish You Were Here” was named one of the greatest songs of all time by the prestigious music magazine Rolling Stone (the US). The original key of the composition is G Major.

A pretty good note-for-note transcription here, with a nice choice of chords. I would perhaps suggest adding another improvised bridge to this arrangement with the 2nd verse repeated after it. As for the song itself, I think it's the closest to describing what staying friends means. Luckily, I have never lost a friend of mine because of the mental breakdown just like happened to Syd Barrett, but playing this song I can feel the message of absence that's transcending through the entire album. The composition's mood is so despondent and plaintive, yet it's also very gentle and even romantic.Waters and Gilmour's collaboration made this one of the most lyrical modern pieces. Just playing the opening guitar riff gets you fully submerged.
