"Winchester Cathedral" is a song by the British group The New Vaudeville Band released in 1966. It was written by the songwriter and group’s founder Geoff Stephens. Geoff was strongly inspired by the 1920’s dance bands and Rudy Vallee vocal style. His novelty composition was recorded by session musicians but became so popular that they had to make an actual band. “Winchester Cathedral” became a transatlantic hit: it was the number-one single in Canadian RPM 100, US Billboard Hot 100 and US Billboard Easy Listening.

I do love The Beatles but I think it's pretty fair that these guys won a Grammy in 1966. They also are pure Britain!

Was für ein netter und lustiger Oldie, ein richtiger Ohrwurm! Solche Brit-Pop-Liedchen aus den 60er zählt man hete zu moderner Klassik.

Mom told in used to be a hit number 1 in 1966. I was too young to remember that song myself but now when I listened to it put a smile on my face. Someone would maybe say that it's a very old-fashioned song, but I do love it way more than most of the modern pop songs that are on the radio.
