Originally, “Susie-Q” is a rockability song by the American singer-songwriter and rhythm guitar player Dale Allen Hawkins. The song was written by Dale but Stan Lewis and Eleanor Broadwater are also credited as co-authors. Hawkins’ version was included into the Rock’N’Roll Hall of Fame and inspired numerous cover versions. It was performed as a very short and fast song by The Rolling Stones, as a glam rock interpretation by Suzi Quatro, and a mix-style easy listening cover by José Feliciano. Perhaps, one of the most popular versions though is the one by the American rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival for their 1968 debut album. Released as a single, it was extended to almost 9 minutes and got into the Top 40 becoming the band’s most successful music hit.
