A lovely arrangement of the traditional French carol for brass band. The vocal parts are taken by solo cornet, solo horn, 1st trombone and 1st euphonium. The rest of the band provide accompaniment and in one verse it is 'a capella'. This arrangement is quite easy and would suit most standards of ensemble.

This French carol is treated like a little toccatina. The main theme must sing out clearly from the figuration. The second theme requires a very controlled touch in the chords to make the top tone ring out from the lower tones. Remember toccata comes from the Italian word toccare meaning to touch. Focus on the variety of touches required of you in the arrangement.

Between 2017 and 2025, I composed many arrangements of well-known, mostly German Christmas carols for a saxophone quartet. Many of these pieces have been published as sheet music by Chili Notes; I would like to offer some of the as-yet-unpublished songs for download here.
The Christmas program has often been performed in concerts, and it has also proven to be well-suited for performances at music schools.
Most of the Christmas carol arrangements have a classical style, yet they are arranged with a more or less jazzy feel and consistently offer room for improvisation. “Noel Nouvelet” was arranged to match the mood of the original and expanded to include improvisational sections.
The MP3 file was created using the Sibelius composition software, which may result in minor inaccuracies in the performance.
