Tuba and euphonium quartet inspired by
my story "The Duchess' Tune"
to quote:
"The mountaineers headed downhill for two days, with no idea where to
find the first outposts of civilization, but eventually they heard a long
low sound as if of a thousand snoring Yeti. There was a monastery - .... "
The original tune is an expansion of a short atonal melody
handed to me on a scrap of paper 40 years ago by a
fellow student (known to all as The Princess).
Initially it developed into a guitar solo but it has now also
blossomed into a tuba quartet.
In both cases, the atonal melody
flowered into something more tonal and interesting.
