This is a famous but rather sad song about an area in Southern Tuscany that was often affected by seasons of Malaria when many lost their lives. I have set this twice, this is the easier version. This is the translation of the text.
Everyone talks to me about Maremma, Maremma but it seems to me a bitter Maremma. The bird that flies there loses its feather, the young man that goes there loses his lady.
May Maremma be cursed, cursed be Maremma and those who love it. My whole heart trembles when I go there for fear that we shall never see each other again.
