Written to be performed at a concert of Italian music, this work has two styles: one harking back to an opera by Mascagni, and the other perhaps a march from something of Elgar.
I chose the words from Swinburne, because, like me, he spent a considerable time in Italy and his words certainly evoke the memories I have of Siena and its surroundings.
