Batterie is a chamber percussion quintet which evokes the styles of marching band and drum corps. The solo passages, asymmetrical phrases, a few unusual techniques and strong unison sections make this a challenging piece for intermediate to advanced players.
Scored for bass drum, snare drum, piccolo snare drum and two tenor drums, rhythmically rich solo sections for each are linked by strong cadence-like unison passages. Each performer gets to show off their chops, and the ensemble demonstrates their musicianship.
A powerful, rousing piece, Batterie can serve well as a concert opener or finale piece.
