An attractive arrangement of Max Reger’s Introduction and Passacaglia in D minor for accordion quartet (three accordions and bass accordion). The monumental form, powerful passacaglia theme, and dense polyphony gain a new sonic dimension, making this work an excellent choice for concert performance and advanced ensembles. The richness and authenticity of sound are achieved through the technical possibilities of the classical accordion, including refined registration, dynamic nuance, and the use of the free-bass system, which in resonant spaces such as churches convincingly evokes the sonority of a large pipe organ.
