Fugue 1998-99 is an experimental work using imitation of the fugue subject at the diminished fifth rather than the perfect fifth, and a general scheme centered on the diminished seventh chord. While the score is not as dense as it sounds, the regular occurrences of fierce dissonances give the composition a feel of frequent clustering. However, most of the work is in two and three voices. The pedal solo in the coda was added in early 1999.
