Estampie (2008) for two violins is dedicated to Larry and Evelyn Read. Estampie (noun) – a medieval dance and instrumental form, in several repeated sections, associated chiefly with the trouvères This work begins with a slow introduction as the two violins introduce various modal melodic material over drones. The remainder of the piece is fast and driving, integrating sections of modal exploration (centered around G and D) with atonal and idiosyncratically modal excursions.
