Piece for 3 clarinets and classical guitar based on Shakespeare's 3 witches incantation in his play Macbeth.
The clarinets follow the vocal parts and also jump around from time to time as the witches jump up and down with malicious glee.
Suitable for a Shakespeare performance or, more generally, for a Halloween concert.

The original sung version (for 3 altos and guitar) is also available on musicaneo at

This is based on my setting of the witches' incantation in Shakespeare's Macbeth
"1st WITCH Thrice the brinded cat hath mew'd.
2nd WITCH. Thrice and once, the hedge-pig whin'd.
3rd WITCH. Harper cries:—'tis time! 'tis time!
1st WITCH. Round about the caldron go;
In the poison'd entrails throw.—
Toad, that under cold stone,
Days and nights has thirty-one;
Swelter'd venom sleeping got,
Boil thou first i' the charmed pot!
ALL. Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble. (etc)"

The pdf file contains score and parts.
The flutes follow the words of the original spell and occasionally also jump up and down with malicious glee.
The sound here is an electronic preview.

The original song (for three altos and guitar - performed by the composer) can be heard here:

As requested by the leader of a flute choir, here is a more atmospheric version of the Witches Recipe with added sound effects (eery wind blowing, tongue rams representing the ingredients plopping into the cauldron etc) and occasional spoken quotes from the original Shakespeare witches' chant.

Thrice the brinded cat hath mew'd.
Thrice and once, the hedgepig whin'd.
Harpier cries:—'tis time! 'tis time!
Round about the caul-dron go;
In the poi-son'd en-trails throw.
Toad, that un-der cold stone,
Days and nights has thirty one;
Swelter'd venom sleeping got,
Boil thou first i' the charmed pot!
ALL. Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble. (etc) "

(I have also added our family joke misquoting Shakespeare: Hubble bubble toil and trouble, witches' brew and I'll have a double!)

The pdf file contains score and parts.
I have not made an electronic preview of the sound, because, in view of all the special effects and spoken parts, it will be best to wait for a live performance,
but as regards the musical notation itself, apart from the introductory first few bars, it is based on my original Witches' Recipe for flute choir, available here:
http://dwsolo.musicaneo.com/sheetmusic/sm-268767_the_witches_recipe_for_flute_choir.html
(which has an electronic preview sound sample)
