This piece was written in the spring of 2011 as part of a series of virtuosic solo etudes for various instruments. Though dizzyingly chromatic on the surface, requiring a few quarter tones and multiphonics, structurally, it is a rather straightforward sonata form in D minor. Eric Bowling premiered the Etude-Fantasy at the Bishop in Bloomington, IN, in November 2011. Also, please ignore the robotic MIDI--I could not upload the premiere in its present format. Feel free to take liberties with the tempo and the extended techniques.
