A majestic salute to this magnificent building, begun with unheard-of grandeur by King Henry VIII and completed in Queen Mary's time. "Nonsuch" actually does mean "none other equals it". Sadly, this is also one of the most short-lived palaces. The notorious Barbara, Lady Castlemaine, mistress of King Charles II, cold-bloodedly took it apart in 1683, in order to pay her gambling debts with the materials! Only a few images of the palace remain, the rest is left to the imagination.
Concluding the history lesson with some music, let us take out our recorders and play this tribute.
The complete score, as well as the separate parts, are all here in the pdf.
