"In the Sweet Joy" is a contemporary motet for the Christmas season, for four mixed voices, on medieval lyrics in double language - Latin and German. The style is reminiscent of Early Renaissance polyphony with new harmonization. The vocal parts can also be doubled by instruments. The motet is available also for four female voices, SSAA. It can be performed either by a choir or by four soloists.

The poetry is attributed to Heinrich Suso (1295-1366)
1.In dulci jubilo,
Nun singet und seid froh!
Unsers Herzens Wonne
Leit in praesepio,
Und leuchtet als die Sonne
Matris in gremio,
Alpha es et O, Alpha es et O!

2. O Jesu parvule
Nach dir ist mir so weh!
Tröst mir mein Gemüte
O puer optime
Durch alle deine Güte
O princeps gloriae.
Trahe me post te!

3. O Patris caritas!
O Nati lenitas!
Wir wären all verloren
Per nostra crimina
So hat er uns erworben
Coelorum gaudia
Eia, wären wir da!

4. Ubi sunt gaudia
Nirgend mehr denn da!
Da die Engel singen
Nova cantica,
Und die Schellen klingen
In regis curia.
Eia, wären wir da!

1.In the sweet joy,
Now sing and be happy!
Our blissful heart
Brings us to the manger,
Where the sun illuminates
[Him] in his mother’s lap,
He is the beginning and the end.

2. O tiny Jesus
Following you I feel so hurt!
Console me in my thoughts
O lovely child
by your goodness
O Prince of Glory.
Take me with you!

3. O Fatherly love!
O gentleness!
We would lose all
due to our sins
But he has won for us
The joys of heaven.
Alas, were we there!

4. Where are there
Greater joys than here!
As the angels sing
New songs,
And the bells ring
In the king’s court.
Alas, were we there!
