"Eight Little Sketches for Viola" - Program Notes

This composition belongs to a series of virtuosic compositions for solo instruments based on the properties of the Byzantine Music modes. Specifically, after the Prologue, which is the introduction of the piece, each of the eight movements is based in one of the eight Byzantine modes, 4 dominant and four plagal. Each movement lasts approximately one minute and it is one third slow and two thirds fast or vice versa.
