“Greek Summertime” – Program Notes
Living far away from their homeland, even for a short period of time, Greeks usually miss the beauties of the nature and the unique lifestyle of Greece. Including myself to this nostalgia, I felt the urge to travel back to my country through music and write a piece with a summer sensation that someone feels and enjoys when is in Greece and especially to a beautiful littoral place. My chosen instrumentation of the two percussion and the piano (which is also used as a percussion) and the usage of mixed Greek time signatures has been a helpful tool to express a happy summer time mood while being thousand miles away, in Atlanta, Georgia.
