“Pillowtalk” is an alternative R&B/electropop song by the popular UK singer-songwriter, the former member of One Direction band – Zain Javadd Malik known as Zayn. The song was co-written by Zayn and a team of Michael Hannides, Anthony Hannides, Joe Garrett & Levi Lennox. It was released at the beginning of 2016 as part of the singer’s 1st album titled “Mind of Mine”. “Pillowtalk” was written shortly after Zayn left One Direction and it became his debut solo single, which, according to the critics, was a big success. The song was praised for the unusual for Zayn vocal performance and the shift to alternative R&B genre with the elements of electro and pop music. The original key of the composition is B Major, the tempo – 126 BPM. “Pillowtalk” is all about intimacy and sex. It was one of the best-selling songs at the start of the year, debuting at No.1 both in the UK Singles Charts & Billboard Hot 100. Besides that, it topped the music charts of another dozen countries being certified gold/platinum in many of them.

Ever since this 'long-anticipated' song by Malik was released and started cresting the music charts, I've been wondering 'why so popular?' and getting curious to try it on the piano. So here's what I've come to after printing out the music score and giving it some time. Contrary to my previous thoughts, the song turned out to be completely ... simple. Musically simple, I mean, the easiest chords for guitarists and pianists alike, the safe vocal range and a lot of space for improvisation. All this makes the composition very accessible, you know what I mean? Basically, anyone could interpret it on his/her instrument and even sing to it not deviating too much from the original Malik's version.
