“One Day Like This” is an art/symphonic rock song by the Best British Band of 2009, the alternative rock stars known as “Elbow”. The song was written by the band’s lead singer-songwriter Guy Garvey and was released in 2008 as a single from the band’s 4th album titled “The Seldom Seed Kid”. The song became one the best tracks of the past fifteen years (2011) and won two prestigious Ivor Novello awards (Best Song). “One Day Like This” was widely used in the UK media, especially in sporting events (BBC Sport highlights, FIFA presentation, etc.). It gained additional popularity after being performed live at the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympics (got to the No.4 in the UK chart). A popular version of the song was recorded by the English soprano Sarah Brightman in 2013.

Elbow managed to make a great anthem for positive spirit, there for it resonated with many people worldwide, just take the 2012 Olympics in London, the composition embraces the general mood of the event perfectly. At the same time, it makes a nice work musically. I think that a serious choir would eagerly include it into repertoire (moreover, this exact score is well-arranged for SATB). As a solo performer, I enjoyed playing this too, though the practicing process took me longer than I thought, the level of difficulty is above intermediate, it seemed to me. The accuracy of the score is there, though, which is important. In short, strongly recommended.
