Variations on the theme Gopsal by G.F. Handel For strings
I have written eight variations on this theme by Handel. Each has a different character. There are four movements;
1 movement Begins with a short slow introduction, then the theme, moderato and variation 1 with soloists, ending with variation 2, allegretto.
2 movement Variation 3, mainly in pizzicato, humoresque character.
3 movement Variations, 4 and 5, andante and adagio giving a thoughtful and peaceful character.
4 movement Variation 6, allegro, waltz character. Variation 7, as a march in 2/4. Variation 8, as a dance leading to Finale
Finale Returning to the beginning, with a repeat of the beginning. The idea is as if the theme from Handel has gone on a journey and now gone back home.
