The Wonder Cantata was composed in 2011 and performed by the Chancel Choir, Fauntleroy Church UCC at the choir's Christmas concert. The lyrics for the Cantata were developed by composer Bronwyn Edwards (Music Director at Fauntleroy Church) after a conversation about the wonder of Christmas with the Senior Pastor at Fauntleroy Church, Reverend David Kratz and chorister Greg Dirks.

Following are Reverend Kratz's reflections, which inspired the fourth song of the Cantata, entitled "The Power."

Honoring human life, the incarnation (meaning “in body, in flesh”) is an affirmation that God acts naturally, with human beings – bodies, minds and persons – rather than supernaturally. God has chosen to heal the world through human beings. When we catch that idea – when it grabs us – that is a wonder! We experience the continued wonder of the miracle of the birth of Christ, and that God loves an ordinary person like me. That’s the power of Christmas.

These reflections were part of the performance, helping the listener to better understand the concepts behind the music.

"Here is the power of Christmas, raised to the power of three: God in heaven, a Babe on earth and love for even me -- God loves an ordinary person like me. Feel the power of Christmas!" The Power may be sung by a two-part choir or as a duet for Mezzo-Soprano and Baritone, accompanied by flute and piano. "The Power" is really a trio, with the flute providing a contrasting melody to this wonder-filled and dissonant duet. This is the fourth song in the Wonder Cantata, celebrating the wonder of the Christmas season.
