Carillon Prelude began as my New Year's greeting for 2009. The composer Carson Cooman suggested that I expand the postcard-sized piece into a longer work. The work is dedicated to him in thanks. The opening marcato figure alternates with a more songlike motive, with a continuous sixteenth note movement in the left hand. The pianist should strive for a bell-like sound, especially in the longer notes of the bass line
