In my teenage years, during 1966, I set three Psalms, numbers 43, 133 and 137, for SATB choir a cappella. A little later I set Psalm 114 for the same forces. I felt recently that the main themes of the first three need to be saved, although I significantly revised much of the music. The fourth Psalm (114) had to be completely re-written as the original setting was far too naive.
The words for this revision are taken from the New Jerusalem Bible.
I consider that these Psalms are able to be sung by a good amateur choir, even though challenging in parts. It is my hope that it will be performed and enjoyed either liturgically or in concert.
