9 Miniatures for String Quartet (1999) or String Orchestra (2013) The nine movements are very brief impressions, each one of them has a different musical idea. I wrote the second, the fifth, the seventh and the ninth movements in traditional notation. At variance, I added some graphic symbols and notational signs in the first, third, fourth, sixth and eigth movements. I tried to create some especial sound effects form the strings in particular pizzicato and glissando techniques. The work has a number of cantabile melodies, which are written form the incomplete Arabic scales "Maqamat". In general, I feel I composed a work that combines the Egyptian character and the post-modern style.
I. 1st M. (Andante) Long and Short. II. 2nd M. (Moderato) Maqam. III. 3rd M. (in seconds) Tremolo Curve. IV. 4th M. (Andante) Chromatic-Glissando. V. 5th M. (Allegro) Rhythm, VI. 6th M, (Ad Lib. Andante) Improvisations. VII. 7th M. (Presto) Melody. VIII. 8th M. (Andante) Un-tempered Glissando. IX. 9th M. (Moderato) Final.
