Amazing Grace ist sicherlich das bekannteste geistliche Lied weltweit. Es verdankt seine Entstehung einem Schlüsselerlebnis seines Autors John Newton, der Kapitän eines Sklavenschiffes war. Nachdem er am 10. Mai 1748 in schwere Seenot geraten und nach Anrufung des Erbarmens Gottes gerettet worden war, behandelte er zunächst die Sklaven menschlicher. Nach einigen Jahren gab er seinen Beruf sogar ganz auf, wurde stattdessen Geistlicher und trat für die Bekämpfung der Sklaverei ein.
Interpretiert wurde es unter andern von Aretha Franklin, Elvis Presley, Jessye Norman und Joan Baez. Die einfache pentatonische Melodie wird in der vorliegenden Bearbeitung mit reicher Harmonik unterlegt.

Updated harmonies add a wonderful lush sound to this arrangement of Amazing Grace. The first part begins in C Major and modulates temporarily to the key of G Major (ending on a lush 13th chord) before moving back to the original key. The first section ends with a modulation bringing you to the new key of D Major. The second section continues with the use of the updated harmonies and the bass is given some additional interest and movement through the expanded use of 16th notes and triplet figures. ASCAP
