This piece was inspired by a poem written by a friend about the coastline around Britain.One section particularly inspired me: it referred to the white chalk cliffs at Dover, and the thoughts of the onlooker turning to thoughts of those who gave their lives and left this shore forever.
The music is quiet and reflective,using poignant dissonances to reflect the sentiment. Part way through the piece, there are quotations from the poem, to be read over the music by a narrator; "cliffs, with their white facade of chalk, a reminder to all of the living that in these small isles they represent a freedom paid for with blood, sweat and tears."
All royalties from the sale of this work, will be donated to the Royal British Legion.
