J. S. Bach's 'Siciliana', originally for solo violin, arranged for two marimbas. This graceful piece is a medium-standard arrangement that would suit a marimba duo performance at senior school or college level. 4.1/3 octave marimbas required, and both parts need 4-mallet technique (although part 2 is simpler than part 1). Fingering arrangement for guitar by Daniel Pancelli.
This arrengement is intended for players that will use a plectrum. Hence, the importance of the fingering. It can be played in whatever guitar as long as standard tuning is used.
Pick direction, finger used, and string number is provided for each and every note.
The criteria approach employed in the fingering choice is to respect the original articulations, in this case the legato runs, which of course for guitar means hammer-on's and pull-off's, including the infamous (term famously attributed to Greg Howe as used to refer to it for the first time in that way) "hammer-on's-from-nowhere", really necessary in this piece. Although given the difficulty level, great speed achievement is limited, the fingering has been designed in order to achieve some interesting speed while not compromising the articulation, which in this case, to my knowledge, plays an important role, which is to give the feeling of "acceleration", or "slowing-down", and creates balances both expected and unexpected in volume, which, since the piece, besides its implied speed in its name "Presto", which means fast, does not specify an exact tempo, it doesn't either provide expression marks, as is customary for these kinds of pieces.
