The title Pelican Suite comes from the work being based on and inspired by New Orleans style brass band music, most notably from groups such as Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Soul Rebels. Written in three movements, movement 1 alludes to a fanfare/march/dance type music. Movement 2 is solemn, reflecting funeral music and movement 3, titled “Wonderful Dreams” was largely inspired by the Soul Rebels rendition of the early techno-pop song Sweet Dreams by the Eurhythmics.
