This is a moderately contemporary setting for mixed chorus (SATB) of the famous Christmas Carol written in 1599. The various verses were written by different authors: Michael Praetorius 1609, Friedrich Layriz 1844, and others unknown. The music is set to the original German language but the famous text in English written by Theodore Baker is included on the attached pdf. The keyboard accompaniment is optional, it can be just used for rehearsal or to accompany the choir in a performance. The harmonic texture is hymn-like, homophonic in nature, very easy and traditional in its effect.
