Written in 2021, Hidden Mysteries is a short piece for viola and piano lasting 6 ½ minutes. It is a form of meditation on the hidden mysteries of the universe, in particular, all that is unseen.
It is in three sections: the first is slow, consisting of repeated notes in the piano and harmonics in the viola. A short melodic phrase is repeated and transformed in both instruments. The central section is in 6/8 time and develops short melodic phrases over a flowing figuration. The final section is a variation on the first, with the repeated notes becoming chords. The piece ends with viola, punctuated by rapid arpeggios in the piano.
