Ukrainian-born composer Dimity Bortniansky (1751-1825) wrote operas, piano sonatas, and songs, but is best known for his many a cappella choral works in Church Slavonic, which he called "Sacred Concertos." The 24th of these is a setting of Psalm 121 ("I will lift up my eyes to the hills, whence comes my help..."), and its opening and closing sections, as arranged here, make an effective prelude and fugue for organ.
