Programme note:
Filigree is a delicate kind of ornamental jewellery, typically in gold and silver, assembled from small beads or twisted threads, soldered together or attached to the surface of an object of the same metal and arranged in artistic patterns. Filigree is an ancient form of metalwork but was fashionable also in Italy and France between the 17th and 19th centuries. It sometimes resembles the appearance of lace fabric and remains popular in India and other Asian countries.
