Rickety-Tik is a minimalist composition by Joseph Hasper. The style and form are in the tradition of "constructed pieces" pioneered by Philip Glass in the 20th Century. It is scored for 13 players; these instruments may be freely chosen and substituted, and are used in either "shaker", "melody", "bass" or "percussion" roles. Experimentation with different instruments and configurations is encouraged!
Shaker
Any kind of shaker (maracas, cabasa, etc.), or another percussive instrument
Melody - contains rapid sixteenth note passages, so instruments with some agility are best suited for this role. Some examples include:
Flute
Bb Clarinet
Alto Saxophone
Tenor Saxophone
Bass - this group plays mostly low notes, so instruments with a deeper pitch are best suited for this role. Some examples include:
Bassoon
Baritone Sax
Tuba
Double Bass
Percussion - instruments with distinctive, contrasting timbres should be chosen for this role (or not!). One possible collection would include:
Claves
Snare Drum
Tenor Drum
Bass Drum
