Composer’s Note
The 46 Etudes for Multiple Percussion Solos were composed between 2020 and 2025 and were completed at the end of 2025. During this period, I focused on reexamining temporal organization within the conceptual framework of post-orientalism.
In this collection, the counting unit is QPS (events per line per second). Each event is represented by H (hit) and S (silence), with the precise timing (in seconds) indicated at the end of each line. I drew on mathematical and physical series and sequences, along with a variety of compositional techniques, to develop each etude. This approach frees the composition from reliance on improvisation and indeterminate performance, providing a more exact structural framework.
It is my honor that these 48 etudes have found a place in performers’ repertoires, enabling musicians to interpret and perform them using creative, varied, and colorful instrumentations. I hereby grant all performers free permission to copy, download, perform publicly, and record these etudes, so that they may be re-created through fully innovative combinations.
