I wrote my Fourth String Quartet mainly during the lockdowns of the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Although I have never been a believer in the theory that a composer's life circumstances are directly reflected in his works, there is no denying that this work is at times very pessimistic, serious, disturbing, and tense.
Brighter, lighter passages, such as in the second Movement, are rare.
The scherzo is defiant and serious, and the fourth Movement reaches a final apotheosis which, although composed in a major key and steadily increasing in volume, remains dark and mysterious.
So is it a reflection of the time in which the piece was written after all?
The composer does not dare to answer that question.

The work has four Movements:
1st Movement: Allegro ma non troppo
2nd Movement: Andante moderato
3rd Movement: Scherzo alla marcia comodo - Piú adagio - Tempo primo -
Piú adagio - Tempo primo - Piú adagio
TRIO: Andante e molto rubato - Adagio come prima
4th Movement: Adagietto - Poco a poco piú vivo - Andante maestoso
