Ignaz Pleyel (1757 – 1831), one of the most important composers of the Classical period and a pupil of Joseph Haydn, enjoyed great popularity during his lifetime as a composer of chamber music distinguished by particular melodic clarity and playful elegance.
The three duos for flute and violin presented here are arrangements of works by Pleyel originally written for other instruments:
• Duo for two violins in G major, B. 572
• Piano Trio in A major, B. 434
• Piano Trio in B-flat major, B. 433
As early as 1792, during Pleyel’s lifetime, these three works were reworked by an unknown musician into duos for flute and violin:
• Duo in G major for flute and violin (based on B. 572)
• Duo in A major for flute and violin (based on B. 434)
• Duo in C major for flute and violin (based on B. 433)
The present arrangements are based on these early adaptations. The pieces have been carefully arranged and edited in order to preserve the character and charm of the original works.
