A very interesting duet. A very energetic guitar part and bright, formidable and rich piano part. A combination that makes a great and unusual impression. A distinct rhythm, a formidable and growing low sounding of the piano together with a refined and dynamic guitar melody creates atmosphere of Venice. Though initially the Barcarolle (from Italian barca – a boat) reminds of a gentle roll of waves, in this very piece one encounters storm or even tempest, which reminds of the flip-side of Venice, the side where passions, intrigues and emotions rage. In the duet the instruments are equal in rank and it is nice, because the piano often plays a “secondary” role in duets. A growing threat and anxiety are vividly manifested in the piano part, whereas the guitar with its appealing sounds imitating sea waves creates a soothing effect. A very original, colorful and catchy duet.
