This work was created from the text of the programme of works that would be interpreted in the concert where the premiere would take place. This text appears under the staves because it is the generative idea but should not be used in the performance.
To compose the music, values were assigned to each letter of the alphabet (pitch, duration, intensity, attack or pause) and, using some processes of discrete mathematics, they were transformed into sets of data with which each bar was built. Although it may be possible to establish some affinity between the text of the program, or the music it refers to, and the resulting work, this was not the creative purpose since the use of the text was merely a generating instrument. To the heat of the Carnation Revolution, which had taken place during the creation process, I added a Crochet subtitle, Rice Stitch Minus One, for a comprehensible elucidation of something unattainable, a wink or joke to the pianist and the audience, in which that ‘minus one’ meant something else: Minus a dictatorial regime.
