“Sorrow” is David Bowie’s remake of the popular pop-rock song by the UK rock band The McCoys. The original composition was written by Bob Feldman, Richard Gottehrer & Jerry Goldstein. It was released in 1965 becoming a huge hit in its homeland. David Bowie recorded his version of the single in 1973 in France for his album of covers titled “Pin Ups”. Bowie’s glam/folk rock version became a hit too, reaching No. 3 in the UK and charting for 15 consecutive weeks. Other popular artists covered by David Bowie include Pink Floyd, The Who, The Pretty Things, The Yardbirds and others.

I truly enjoying playing this version of Sorrow. I used to play The McCoys' original version on guitar back in the 80ies but that's the case when I prefer a cover to the original. In fact, all Bowie's covers from Pin Ups are a very unique mixture of the original sound and his own different style carefully intertwined with the music authors' intentions. The score reads nice and easy and the piano part is just gorgeous.
