“Under the Bridge” is an alternative rock song by the popular American rockers, one of the best-selling bands of the world – Red Hot Chili Peppers (RHCP). It was written by the band members Flea, Smith, Kiedis and Frusciante (at that time), and released in 1991 as part of the band’s 5th album titled “Blood Sugar Sex Magik”. The creation of the song started with the lyrics by Anthony Kiedis who feared it would not fit in RHCP traditional repertoire. However, the rest of the band supported his work and wrote music to it. The song is an expression of despair and loneliness, a reflection on the tragic influence of drugs on people’s lives. “Under the Bridge” became a commercial hit reaching the No.2 on the Hot 100 and being certified platinum. It is the most performed (live) composition by RHCP.

I got this score with the aim to step up my RHCP playing skills, so accurate sheet music with proper guitar tabs and chords was an important condition. It's excellent material for this purpose. Considering that Under the Bridge is not by any means a typical piece for the band's style, it's a good start for a beginner who can get on track by first playing this softer downtempo ballad and then proceed to more powerful and aggressive funk rock stuff by the Peppers. The introductory verse is cradled by easy guitar (that you'll learn really fast) and then the choral crescendo comes that is still restrained but adds to the effect excellently. In short, If you are looking for the authentic Under the Bridge - that's it.
