The poem "Emina" was originally written by a famous Bosnian poet Aleksa Šantić (1868-1923). The musical accompaniement for the poem was composed later in the style of traditional Bosnian "Sevdah" music - the resulting song is now considered a part of Bosnian foklore and is often sang by Bosnians at parties and get-togethers. In the poem, the main protagonist watches the beautiful Emina from afar as she waters the flowers in the old Imam's garden. His longing is palpable as he describes Emina's beauty and grace, followed by his polite attempt to engage her in conversation which was ignored by the "beautiful Emina."
