“Dark Hollow” is a folk song most known as a recording by the American rock band The Grateful Dead. The original song was written and recorded by the Bluegrass artist Bill Browning in 1958: it appears on the B-side of his single “Borned with the Blues”. The popular traditional ballads “East Virginia” and “Come All You Fair and Tender Ladies” served as inspiration for Bill’s writings. “Dark Hollow” remained the No.1 hit in his short music career. As for The Grateful Dead interpretation, it appeared in the early 70s as an acoustic cover first and later was recorded on electric guitars. The song is on the band’s album “History of the Grateful Dead, Volume One (Bear's Choice)” and was performed over 30 times. Other notable renditions of the composition include versions by Kimmie Skinner, Mac Wiseman, Ralph Stanley, Muleskinner, David Bromberg and David Grisman.

schönes ruhiges Lied, was für eine Melodie. Rock war wesentlich besser in den 70ern...
