"Oh Shenandoah" is an unaccompanied arrangement in a new setting. The beginning and ending uses a canon-like "echo" effect. The parts are interesting in their movement and there are no static lines. It is a traditional folksong suitable for programming on most concert venue and as a contest or festival piece. The arrangement is an intermediate level and could be performed with a good middle school choir, high school and college choirs. The audio is a computer rendering in Finale.

This folksong, just like many other traditional tunes, sounds the best once you add a little of your own to its original. I love Shenandoah for it always gives that essential space for improvising and personal interpretation. One does not need any sophisticated arrangements to do it so it's good to go with something basic yet comprehensive, just like this version. For me, it will apparently work as the basis for my own contemporary folk works to come. The most important part here is the emotion you would like to convey through your playing.
