Rêverie
Written in 1890, Debussy's Rȇverie was one of his first solo piano works to make an impact. Even at this early stage in his career, when he was still working out what kind of composer he wanted to be.
The gently repetitive theme that opens the work feels like a descent into sleepy dream-world (as the title suggests), and as the textures become ever richer the dreams only become more lush and addictive. A fantastic early sign that this Debussy fellow was one to watch.
Although it was written as a piano solo, there have been numerous arrangements of Rȇverie for other instruments and ensembles. Examples include versions for violin and piano, violin and harp, chamber orchestra and (most importantly) for two guitars recorded by Julian Bream and John Williams.

Reverie is a piano piece by Claude Debussy, written in 1890, and published in 1891. It was first performed in 1899 by Germaine Alexandre. It is listed as L. 86 in François Lesure's catalog of Debussy's works.

I'm not a professional musician, rather an amateur performer, playing pieces mostly for myself or for the family and friends. Those are often either blues/new age works or some pop compositions. Just for fun, you know. To my big shame, I had never heard Reverie until last night, only heard the title. I can't express the amount of awe I felt when listening to this dreamlike composition! The romantic aura swept me away from the first notes, so impressed! I've just printed the score and am serious in my readiness to learn it, but flipping through all of the pages I've already realized it's not gonna be so easy. Still, very much looking forward to mastering this unbelievably stunning work.
