A piano prelude based on the well-known American folk-hymn, "Holy Manna" ("Brethren, We Have Met to Worship"). Ideal for those occasions when a voluntary of pliable length is needed! Played without repeats, the piece lasts 2 minutes and 15 seconds; but any or all of three marked sections may be repeated, each of which will add half a minute to the total duration.
The three sections, incidentally, are:
1. (mp) A simple whole-note harmonization of the tune, with only the merest hints of imitation.
2. (mf) A setting with the tune imitated an octave below at a distance of one bar.
3. (f) The tune begins in the tenor, imitated two octaves higher and a half-bar later; then the tenor follows the top voice at a bar's distance for one phrase before declaiming the final phrase in augmentation.
