“Non Ti Scordar di Me” (En. ‘do not forget me’) is a popular song by the Italian composer from Naples Ernesto de Curtis, the author of many Neapolitan songs including “Ti voglio tanto bene”, “Voce ‘e notte” and the famous “Torna a Surriento”. The song was composed in 1935 for the same-titled film. The lyrics were written by the Italian songwriter Domenico Furnò. In the film, “Non Ti Scordar di Me” is performed by Beniamino Gigli, an opera singer (tenor) whose recordings made so many of the Italians songs popular worldwide. This particular song by de Curtis, as his later work, quite differs from what he had composed before. Unlike the cheerful mood of the Neapolitan songs, “Non Ti Scordar di Me” is visibly sad and poignant, the main character sings about his ‘cold and sunless’ home. Another difference is the language of the work – it is standard Italian instead of the well-known Neapolitan dialect that is characteristic for such compositions. The song was performed by numerous outstanding artists. Among the most prominent recordings are versions by Luciano Pavarotti, Mario Lanza, Carlo Buti, Claudio Villa, Andrea Bocelli and many others.

Pavarotti's rendition is my favourite version of this unique song. I could listen to it over and over again - no one could sing it like this wonderful tenor did. In general, I noticed that it might be a problem if you want to get the score of just one song like Non Ti Scordar di Me, normally they come as a collection set. I prefer purchasing the sheet music separately as I don't normally need all the songs, just the favourite ones. In this case, a great bonus is also the possibility to re-key the interactive score. It came in quite useful this time for me.
